Dem Halloween: A Celebration of Sheer Stupidity

Let’s talk about Dem Halloween. It’s supposedly this made-up holiday where people are encouraged to dress up, act out ridiculous antics, and somehow think it deserves a spot on the calendar. Frankly, this idea is an all-out dumb one, and it deserves to be dragged for its sheer idiocy.

What Exactly Is Dem Halloween?

Good question. What even is Dem Halloween? If you’re drawing a blank, you’re not alone. Dem Halloween seems to have emerged out of nowhere, without any coherent purpose or tradition. It’s not even a spin on a classic tradition like Halloween or Dia de los Muertos. It’s literally nothing. There’s no origin story, no cultural significance, no unique set of customs—just some random excuse to do something, though what that “something” is remains as vague as the concept itself.

Dem Halloween appears to be all about celebrating, well… who knows what. There are no rules or guidelines other than dressing up in costumes that aren’t even scary or particularly meaningful. At least with traditional Halloween, there’s a spooky theme or historical reference; Dem Halloween doesn’t even try.

A Holiday With No Reason

Let’s be clear: holidays are supposed to be meaningful. They commemorate historical events, celebrate cultural traditions, or simply give people a break from the grind (hello, Labor Day). But Dem Halloween doesn’t do any of that. There’s no deeper meaning, no tradition, no roots to speak of. It’s as if someone took Halloween, stripped it of all the things that make it fun or relevant, and presented us with a hollow shell of a holiday that accomplishes nothing.

You can’t even say it’s about the candy or the parties. Dem Halloween enthusiasts might argue it’s just about having fun, but if “having fun” involves doing the same things you could do on a regular night out—except with extra effort on pointless costumes—then why bother even calling it a holiday? There’s nothing novel or exciting about dressing up as a mundane character for the sake of “celebrating” a holiday that doesn’t even know what it’s celebrating.

Dem Halloween Is the Embodiment of “Trying Too Hard”

The entire premise reeks of desperation. It’s like someone tried to create a holiday out of thin air, hoping it would catch on without actually putting any thought into it. Sure, we have made-up holidays like “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” but even those are tongue-in-cheek and don’t pretend to be something they’re not. Dem Halloween, on the other hand, tries to masquerade as a legitimate holiday without any substance to back it up.

The people who buy into Dem Halloween are essentially signing up to celebrate nothing. Imagine dressing up and attending a themed event, only to find out that even the people organizing it have no idea what it’s supposed to be about. If Dem Halloween were an event, it would be that cringey guy at a party trying to start a conga line when nobody’s interested. Just stop.

It Doesn’t Deserve Recognition

For a holiday to get on the map, it should have some redeeming qualities. It should bring people together for a purpose, honor something important, or at least create some positive memories. But Dem Halloween doesn’t have any of that. In fact, it barely has anything. It’s a glorified excuse to throw on a costume and half-heartedly pretend like there’s a reason to be doing it.

Nobody needs another made-up holiday cluttering the calendar, especially one that lacks any kind of thematic or cultural anchor. We’re already dealing with the oversaturation of “National [Insert Random Thing Here] Day.” At least those holidays are usually one-offs and don’t pretend to have an entire season dedicated to them. Dem Halloween, though, seems to think it deserves the spotlight just because.

Time to Let It Go

If you want to throw on a costume, do it on Halloween or cosplay at a convention. If you want to act out some bizarre, pointless antics, that’s what college frat parties and festival weekends are for. But Dem Halloween? It’s unnecessary, devoid of meaning, and a waste of everyone’s time. Instead of clinging to this failed concept, it’s time to let it die the death it deserves.

In conclusion, Dem Halloween represents everything that’s wrong with trying to create a holiday out of thin air. It has no purpose, no tradition, no cultural relevance, and ultimately, no point. So, yeah—fuck Dem Halloween.
